Although homeschooling has been with us for centuries, modern day homeschooling was born during the 1960s.
A number of people played an instrumental part in the development of modern day homeschooling and one of the best known of these was a man named John Holt. An Ivy League graduate and teacher who became more and more disenchanted with the public school system, John Holt wrote at great length on the subject of education and Homeschooling and many of his books are still being published today and are very widely read.
