Recent Software Upgrade Paves Way For More On Demand Satellite TV Offerings
Powering up my Dish Network VIP-622 DVR recently, I was greeted by an on-screen message that informed me about a new software upgrade that had been applied to my unit.
Although I knew that Dish Network would periodically upgrade the software on my DVR, this was the first time I had seen an on-screen message to let me know. Digging a bit, I discovered why this was such an important upgrade.
This upgrade allows my DVR to be connected to my high-speed internet connection. That sounds cool, but what’s really nice is the new programming that will be available because of this upgrade.
Dish Network will now be offering "on demand" programming — previously something that only the cable TV companies were well known for.
If you are someone, like me, who was not happy with cable TV, you might be interested to know that there are many good Dish Network deals available that provide free equipment and even free gifts for signing up for the service.
With on demand programming delivered to my DVR via the internet, I really don’t see many (if any) advantages that cable TV has when compared to satellite television. Take that, Comcast!
