I love to vacation in Wisconsin but the travel between vacation spots is often boring. On those Wisconsin Vacations I pass the time searching for wireless hoptspots. Most of them I find close to major cities although there are getting to be more and more along the rural areas. Using a sniffer program I will take several detours just hunting them down. These side trips are where I find the jewels that the casual traveler often times misses. Not only do I stay in touch I take roads to wonderful points of interest. I can use these hotspots to check email, surf the web, and even look for other attractions. The spots are remarkably easy to find and you would be amazed at how many there are with the state being as sparsely populated as it is.

So if you have a love of computers an a love of travel such as I do then maybe you should try this out. I think you will find it as rewarding as I do. Believe me it will lead you down roads an to experiences you otherwise would miss. It can lead to hours and hours of enjoyment. So take the chance, have some fun, and experience the state.

He still wants to get a gaming laptop, and we may get one next year. In the meantime, he said he is going to do a lot of research to find out which is the best. I do most of my work from my laptop.  It’s getting older and needed a new battery, but I held off because I just leave it on my desk and rarely unplug it anyway.  Well, sure enough my company sent me across the country for the first time in the 8 years I’ve worked for them to do a training for their new office.  Not wanted to have to search around this office for a power outlet, I went online to find a new laptop battery.  It actually wasn’t too expensive to get a battery, although I did have to get a refurbished one as my laptop is apparently so outdated that they don’t sell new batteries for that model anymore.  Now that the trip is over, I’ve put in a request for a new laptop, when your computer is so old that you can’t get a new battery, you need an upgrade.

I had an interesting experience.  I know this has happened to everyone at least once, but it always seems like the end of the world when it happens to you.  Four days before my senior thesis was due my laptop battery died.  No recharging, no nothing.  I knew I could use the power cord as much as possible, but I had to take my laptop to the lab, etc and really needed that battery.  That night I found a place online that sold new laptop batteries and would ship overnight.  I can’t believe how fast I worked over the next couple of days, but that battery was a lifesaver.

I’ve always wondered how much it would cost to rebuild my computer.  I’m a do-it-yourself kind of gal and have wallpapered my entire house, installed my own sprinkler system, and just started re-upholstering the living room furniture, but I tend to shy away from technical things.  Since I got the instructions for all my other little projects online, I decided to start checking out parts for my laptop and see if I couldn’t find some sort of step by step manual on the web.  I couldn’t believe how cheap it is to buy new laptop batteries.  I may hold off on rebuilding the whole computer, but I think I can handle replacing my battery when the time comes.

This may seem a little strange, but I started buying extra laptop batteries when I was in college.  A couple of my buddies who were in the computer department would order them online and charge them in their computer.  While in class they would always have a couple in their bag to make sure that they could just shut down and switch out if they needed to.  Now that I’m in the real world, I still do the same thing if I know I have a long day or a bunch of meetings where I’ll need my laptop.  The batteries aren’t that expensive and it just makes it easier.

I got my laptop about two and a half years ago.  I know we live in a culture where everything comes and goes so quickly, but I didn’t think I had had it a very long time.  I take good care of my computer, so I was disappointed when my battery stopped holding a charge.  I was afraid that I would have to replace the entire computer, but when I checked online I found that it’s possible to buy new laptop batteries.  I was nervous to order something for my computer online, but the batteries weren’t that expensive and the site was secure so I went for it.  I got my new battery in the mail 3 days later and I have to say that my computer is working better than ever.

I’m dedicated to preserving our environment, so that last thing I want to do is toss my laptop battery in the trash. My local computer store wouldn’t accept my old battery, and my city doesn’t have an electronics recycling program.

Short of mailing it back to the manufacturer, I wanted an easy way to recycle my battery. I found this informative article at Laptops for Less that had all the information I needed to recycle a laptop battery . By following the link in the article, I found a store that would take my battery and while I was at it, I dropped off my old cell phone and ink cartridges for their other recycling programs.

When I got my new laptop, I wondered if the new battery would suffer from the memory effect. My old laptop battery developed a memory, and so did my old cell phone.

According to the user’s manual, Li-Ion batteries don’t have the memory problem. That led me to wonder exactly what the memory effect was. After reading it, I checked my devices to see what kinds of batteries they had. My rechargeable AAs might have the problem, but my laptop, cell phone, and iPod are good to go.

This year for Christmas, I am going to be looking at wireless notebooks. I use my computer a lot for work, and this leaves very little time for my husband to get on and do what he needs to do. This causes some tension, so the obvious answer is to get another computer. Though we don’t really want to have two computers, this is the way it has to be. I will be getting a notebook so that I can work anywhere at any time if I wish to do so, and my husband can use our desktop for what he has to do, and he won’t have to wait for me to take a break or finish up my work for the day. I had always made fun of one of my friends for having a computer backpack instead of a laptop hard case. To me, computer backpacks seemed like an accident waiting to happen. Not only did the laptop backpack look unprofessional and sophomoric, but your average computer backpack was not nearly so well protected as a laptop case. Computer backpacks, you see, are an accident waiting to happen.. They have space for books and other possessions, as well at the dedicated compartment for the laptop computer. It seemed like an easy way to make a mistake and accidentally crush your computer.
