Just outside of Bloomfield, Iowa is a community of Amish that have no use for technology. They still farm with horses, do business with each other sometimes using cash but occasionally using the barter system or just plain helping each other out.
To them, the Internet, phones, TVs, answering machines and computers are something for the “outsiders” to use. Yet, they seem to flourish, have nice homes, a tight community, good friends and close family ties.
If you are curious about how they live and would like to see it for yourself you can visit the website http://www.iowabeautiful.com/south-central-iowa-tourism/Â and read about this unique community.
Just remember that they are a private people that go about their business without inviting “outsiders” to intrude so be respectful of their ways, beliefs and lifestyle but enjoy the experience of seeing how things were prior to the age of technology.
