I went shopping for a new cell phone recently, and I have to say that I was a bit overwhelmed by all the different service providers out there. I can remember a time not too long ago when Motorola and Sprint were pretty much the only choices around. HDTV or high definition television normally refers to any video system of higher resolution than the standard definition. The original HD specifications date back to the early 1980s, when Japan first experimented with a 1025 line television standard.

Japan presented their parameters at an international meeting of television engineers in Algiers in 1981 and Japan’s NHK presented their analog HDTV system at a Swiss conference in 1983. Except for these early formats, HDTV is digital broadcast and therefore it’s introduction will sometimes conincide with the introduction of DTV, or digital television.

DLP Projector Technology 

The single chip DLP projector is capable of displaying up to sixteen million seven hundred thousand colors. The single chip DLP projector has a color wheel that is used to send the information to the screen. The light from the bulb or lamp is split in a prism and the individual primary colors are sent to the chip where they are decoded. The chip then transmits the re-defined “true colors” to the projection screen on a pixel by pixel basis through the use of the color wheel.

Another noticeable difference stems from the use of individual mirrors for each of the RGB colors for each individual pixel. This greatly enhances the capability of the three-chip DLP over the single chip by producing crisper pictures on the media display with much sharper contrast capabilities.

Do you watch television?

Ha, we all know that’s a stupid question. Who doesn’t enjoy a good episode of their favorite show, or a new DVD? We all love to lounge in front of the old “boob tube.” It’s been one of America’s favorite vehicles to relaxation for decades now. Ok ok, some wags don’t watch at all or maybe just movies, and others don’t even have a TV, but they’re looney.

Of course the quality of our entertainment centers just keep getting better. Actually that’s an understatement. Check out what was around in the 80s and then what we have now. If you were there, you certainly remember. A plain CRT tube, maybe some decent TV furniture, and a stereo that may have had good speakers, but they were huge. Certainly nothing like a 55″ plasma high definition television that you can hang on a wall.
